Frederator Studios releases Hatsune Miku robot

Frederator Studios, most well-known for their work with the Adventure Time cartoon series, has worked with toy company Ultra Tokyo Connection to design a brand-new Hatsune Miku-themed robot toy for the upcoming Anime Expo 2016! This figure features the Vocaloid character herself in Frederator Studios’ iconic graphic art style, along with a large Miku-themed mecha for her to pilot and interact with. The robot itself is fully articulated, and features a number of accessories for itself and Miku, including microphone stand and leek-themed baton. The robot even opens up, allowing Miku to enter and pilot it in style! The toy will release at Anime Expo, which will run from July 1st to July 4th, and will also be released for preorder online from July 5th to July 25th. Make sure to pick up one of these cool Miku figures for yourself!

Sanrio and Toei have come together for the first time to release collaborative figures of their two most iconic franchises: Hello Kitty and Mazinger Z! The collaboration features a twin release of two brand-new figures in Bandai’s Chogokin die-cast figure line, taking the Chogokin Hello Kitty robot released last year and the Super Robot Chogokin release of Mazinger Z, with a twist; the figures have swapped design elements, making them look like the other!

The Hello Kitty Chogokin features Mazinger-themed color scheme on top of the original release’s features, such as die-cast ratchet joints, rocket punch paws, opening cockpit, and alternate flight and swimming modes ,and even features a miniature Hello Kitty recolored to appear like Mazinger Z’s pilot, Kouji Kabuto. Meanwhile, the Mazinger Z SRC features a Hello Kitty paint job, and even goes so far as to replace the Mazinger’s signature chest plate with Hello Kitty’s bow, along with featuring Hello Kitty’s visage on its Jet Scrander belt attachment. Mazinger will also come with alternate hand-shaking parts, so the two figures can exchange a signature pose!

In order to celebrate this occasion, the official Bandai YouTube channel has uploaded a unique cartoon celebrating the union, showing off the collaborative designs in an adorable animated short. This year’s San Diego Comic-Con was bigger than ever, with dozens of new announcements on the latest movies, comics, toys, games, and more for fans all over the world! With a wide variety of companies and franchises showing off their new and upcoming products, there has been plenty of awesome news and information for visitors to chew on for months to come.

One of the biggest attractions at the event was the Star Wars panel, which was held in anticipation of the new “The Force Awakens” film’s release this coming December. The panel featured an interview from the famous trio of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, whom will reprise their roles as Luke, Leia, and Han in the new film, as well as the slew of new actors and characters. The panel also featured a surprise showing of a Star Wars-themed concert, complete with fireworks display, as well as new information and tidbits about the upcoming film. “The Force Awakens” will be the newest Star Wars film in 10 years, and will release in theaters on December 18th, 2015.



DC and Marvel were also present at the event, showing off new information and trailers for their upcoming superhero movies. Among these reveals was the first full-length trailer for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, debuting a number of action scenes between the two titanic superheroes, as well as the first debut of Wonder Woman! Other releases include information on the upcoming Deadpool film, as well as “X-Men: Apocalypse” and other big-name films.

A number of displays and exclusive figures were also available throughout SDCC, and covered wide range of franchises, including Mario Bros, Star Wars, Power Rangers, Dragon Ball Z, Game of Thrones, Dr. Who, Frozen, various Marvel and DC franchises, and much more. Virtual reality was also a large component of a number of SDCC booths thanks to the Oculus Rift, and companies like Mattel, Legendary Pictures, SyFy, and others took advantage of the newest technology to advertise their upcoming releases and products.

Toymaker produces 3D-printed fantasy tank

Toymaker Michael Sng has taken the use of 3D-printing in toy creation to a whole new level with his brand-new HMC Boudicca fantasy tank! The vehicle is part of Sng’s Codename Colossus project, which is a series of made-to-order kinetic toys set in an alternate reality Europe. The toy itself stands at over 20″ high, and is comprised of over 400 3D-printed parts, all painted by hand. Featuring multiple motors and LEDs, the toy is capable of walking on its six legs, opening hatches to reveal hidden cannons, rotating its variety of turrets and spotlights, and more! This impressive figure is currently available to order directly from Sng’s Singapore-based workshop for $5,000, and Sng plans to release smaller, more afforable versions of the Boudicca and future releases if the line catches on. After 2012’s release of the limited edition DX Soul of Chogokin Mazinger Z figure, Bandai has finally announced the next release in the DX SoC line: Great Mazinger! The successor to Mazinger Z in the original 1972 animated series, the Great Mazinger is a powered-up version of the original Mazinger, and it shows in this new figure release! Great Mazinger stands at an impressive 13″ tall, and includes the same features and playability that the DX Mazinger Z introduced, like glowing LEDs in the chest and eyes, sounds from the classic TV show, removable armor, detailed inner frame, and hanger stand.

On top of those features, the Great Mazinger comes with a number of new accessories and features, setting it apart from the original Mazinger. Square Enix has updated their line of Marvel-based Play Arts Kai figures with the announcement of Play Arts Kai Spider-Man! Originally debuting at concept artwork at New York Comic Con this past October, the figure is finally ready to hit shelves all over the world! The collectible features all of Play Arts Kai’s iconic articulation and attention to detail, as well as sporting a unique redesign akin to other Play Arts Marvel figures previously shown, such as Iron Man and Thor. Sporting a unique armor-styled suit with black details and ridges, the figure itself includes a number of swappable hands to perform all of Spidey’s iconic poses, as well as several different kinds of web effect pieces. He even comes with a unique web-shaped stand along with the standard Play Arts support stand! Figure and collectible company Hot Toys has announced the newest entry in its growing line of Batman 1/6th scale figures: the Batman design from 1992’s “Batman Returns” film! With Michael Keaton representing the Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s classic Batman film, the figure strives to preserve his unique Batman characterization through impressive life-like sculpting and articulation. True to life, the figure cannot move its head, emulating the real costume’s hard cowl preventing movement, but instead offers a number of faceplates to recreate different emotions, and even comes with posable eyes! The figure itself will come with a variety of accessories, including swappable hands, Batarangs, grappling hook, swappable hands, and a unique stand.

Along with the new Batman figure, Hot Toys is releasing a two-pack, featuring Batman as well as Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne in dinner attire! Kamen Rider celebrates 45 years with gold statues

The “Kamen Rider” series of live-action television shows is celebrating its upcoming 45th anniversary in 2016 with a series of gold statues! Depicting the original Kamen Rider from the first show, which debuted in 1971, these statues will come in two sizes, 4 inches and 8 inches, and both will be sculpted entirely in solid gold! These figures will be manufactured alongisde Tokuriki Honten, a company known for its 300 years of gold casting and metalwork, ensuring the quality of these valuable memorabilia pieces.
These pieces, which are meant for the most diehard fans of the franchise, will be available for preorder starting from April 24th until December 31, 2015, with the figures releasing sometime in 2016. Thanks to being made entirely of solid gold, these pieces will cost a pretty penny for collectors, ranging from $6,500 for the 4″ version to $47,000 for the larger 8″ version. For some, having a gold statue of one of Japan’s most iconic superheroes will be well worth the price!
