ArticleGoodwood1

Every year, the Goodwood Festival of Speed hosts an international motor race event at West Sussex, England, challenging vehicles from across the world to its arduous and exciting hill-based course. Along with this exciting event, every Goodwood Festival since 1997 has featured an art installation featuring vehicles, creating a wide variety of designs and exhibits for visitors to enjoy. This year, to mark BMW’s 100th anniversary, the 2016 Goodwood Festival has commisioned artist Gerry Judah to create the largest sculpture in Goodwood history! The sculpture, which features several of BMW’s cars from over the years, is a feat in both engineering as well as artistry, as the car hover steadfast on massive pillars over onlooking crowds. At night, the installation is lit up with vibrant spotlights, creating a spectacle to be seen 24/7. The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2016 will be running from June 23rd to the 26th.

Artist recreates Van Gogh work through landscaping

2015 at 02:33 pm by admin | Comments Off

ArticleVanGoghLandscape

As part of the celebration of their 100th anniversary, the Minneapolis Institute of Art has commissioned art into reality by transforming a large plot of land into a living Van Gogh painting! Created by landscape artist Stan Herd, the large-scale replication of Van Gogh’s famous “Olive Trees” painting was created through the use of native Minnesotan plants, and spans an area of over 1.2 acres on the Thomson Reuters campus in Eagen. The work has been in progress since this past spring, when Herd planted the wide variety of seeds needed to recreate Van Gogh’s iconic brushstroke art style, such as grass, oats, and other plants. The landscape art is purposefully located near the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, where fliers can see the painting in its full glory from an airborne perspective. For the rest of us on the ground, make sure to visit this piece of living art while you can, since the piece will eventually wither and disappear with the passing of autumn. Don’t worry if you miss out; you can also check out the real “Olive Trees” painting and other classic works of art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art!

ArticleLittlePrince1

Originally written in 1943 by French poet and aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince, also known as Le Petit Prince, quickly became one of the most popular illustrated novels in the world. The novel, which has since been translated into over 250 languages across the world, recently celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2013, and designer figure company Muttpop helped celebrate the occasion with a miniature vinyl figure of the titular prince! Standing at 4″ tall, this figure is now available at TOMODACHI’s Rosedale Shopping Center location, and retails for $21.95. Make sure to stop by and grab this adorable representation of one of the most beloved classic characters in 20th century literature!

ArticleLittlePrince2

The Little Prince was written by poet Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who based the story off of his own experiences as a pilot during troubled times in the early 1940s. The story follows a stranded pilot in the middle of a desert, who encounters a mysterious boy prince who fell to Earth from outer space. The story that follows, while it reads like a children’s book and features charming watercolor drawings, discusses mature themes about the nature of humanity and one’s role in life, and has been named the best French novel of the 20th century. The book has since reached worldwide appeal, and has been adapted into film, stage plays, and comic books, along with receiving several museum galleries and art pieces dedicated to the characters of the book.

Nintendo celebrates 125th anniversary

2014 at 11:56 am by admin | Comments Off

ArticleNintendoAnniversary1

Nintendo has become one of the most popular household names in video gaming, with numerous popular franchises like Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, Metroid, and more releasing over the past couple of decades. The international gaming company has now reached a new milestone as it celebrates its 125th anniversary this week! This marks the original creation of the Nintendo Koppai company, which was created in September 1889 as a playing card company. Producing popular Hanafuda cards for several decades, Nintendo began expanding its brand name into several other business ventures in 1956, before working on toy development with the Ultra Hand in 1966 and laser gun toys in 1973.

ArticleNintendoAnniversary2

The company came into the emerging video game industry around the same time, creating light gun arcade games like Wild Gunman along with home consoles like the Color TV-Game in 1977. Nintendo hit the international spotlight with the release of the Donkey Kong arcade system in 1981, featuring Jumpman as the protagonist, whom would eventually be renamed as Mario. After producing several Game and Watch handheld games through the late 1970s and early 1980s, Nintendo launched the Family Computer, or Famicom for short, in 1983, introducing video gaming to households with games like Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, and other gaming franchises. The Famicom was renamed to the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES, when it was released overseas, and the company has remained one of the largest names in video gaming to this day. The company has since revived and reinvented the video game industry several times over, with consoles like the Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Wii, and 3DS continuing to take risks and find new ways to entertain and inspire players worldwide.

ArticleNintendoAnniversary3

As Nintendo celebrates its 125th anniversary this week, video game enthusiasts and Nintendo fans have a lot to look forward to from the company. With games like Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, Pokemon, and the new upcoming Legend of Zelda game in 2015, as well as the New 3DS handheld console releasing in Japan and NA later this year, Nintendo shows no signs of slowing down even after a decade of business. Let’s see where the next 125 years takes Nintendo and video gaming in general!
