Captain America statue coming to Brooklyn
2016 at 05:40 pm by admin | Comments Off
Classic comic book hero Captain America is celebrating his 75th birthday this year, so Marvel has gone above and beyond in paying tribute to this American icon by commissioning a bronze statue of the hero to be placed in New York City’s Prospect Park in Brooklyn! The statue, which will be initially unveiled at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con before moving to this permanent New York residence, will predominately feature Captain America in a heroic pose, with his iconic shield held aloft. Once completed, the statue will measure 13 feet in height! As of this moment, the only visual fans have to go off of is a design sketch of the statue, though you can look forward to the statue’s unveiling at Comic-Con later this July!

2014 at 03:56 pm by admin | Comments Off
Drawing one of the largest crowds in Comic-Con history, New York Comic-Con offered a variety of exclusive merchandise and collectibles to fans last week, from independent manufacturers to large toy companies alike. Bandai, Japanese toys and collectibles company, was not one to pass up on the opportunity, and offered exclusive and early releases for a number of their upcoming collectibles!
With Power Rangers celebrating its 20th anniversary this year alongside the newest season, Power Rangers Super Megaforce, Bandai has released a number of NYCC-exclusive collectables for Power Rangers fans, young and old. The highlight of this occasion is the new Tokyo Vinyl figure of the Mighty Morphin’ Green Ranger, in NYCC-exclusive Metallic colors! Designed by vinyl artist Touma, this release comes in an entire metallic coat and features a unique legacy box, making it a must-have for any fan of the original Power Rangers season!
Alongside this release was the Limited Edition Power Rangers Legendary Ranger Key Set dedicated to the character Tommy Oliver! Best known for his appearances as the Green and White Ranger in the original Power Rangers airing, Tommy appeared in later seasons as a variety of other Rangers, all of which are featured in this 5-pack of Ranger Keys! Painted in limited-edition metallic colors, all of the keys function with the Deluxe Legendary Morpher, seen in the currently airing Super Megaforce season.
Aside from Power Rangers, Bandai is also celebrating the release of the newest Godzilla film by Legendary Films earlier this year with a new exclusive vinyl figure! Standing 6.5″ tall, the figure features a new unique sculpt and paint job, highlighting his glowing radioactive spines as part of his signature Atomic Breath move! The figure comes in a stylized exclusive box, and shows the figure amidst a destroyed cityscape.
Along with these new exclusives, Bandai featured a number of other figures at their booth, available for purchase before their scheduled retail release! These include the Armor-Up Baymax figure from Big Hero 6, which allows collectors to use over 20 armor pieces to recreate both Baymax’s normal and armored appearances in the upcoming film! Other collectibles at the booth include the Batman, Master Chief, and LBX Achilles model kits, allowing builders to create their favorite characters. With these figures and more available at NYCC this year, it was the perfect place for fans and collectors alike to celebrate their hobby!

DreamWorks virtual reality booth at NYCC
2014 at 02:49 pm by admin | Comments Off
With DreamWorks Animation’s animated sequel, “How to Train Your Dragon 2″, releasing in theaters earlier this year, the animated film company brought their newest film to last week’s New York Comic-Con in a brand new way with their virtual-reality experience booth! Using the Oculus Rift, a virtual-reality headset previously seen in several booths at this summer’s San Diego Comic-Con, the exhibit provided visitors with an interactive gaming experience, allowing players to control an airborne dragon as it flies through several obstacles.
The exhibit, designed to resemble Viking vessels similar to the ones seen in the film, featured unique seating that mimicked the way the movie portrayed riders on their dragons, and featured a number of interactive features to make the experience even more realistic. These included a vibrating motor placed underneath the seat that activated on turns or other bumpy aerial maneuvers, and a fan pointed at the users’ faces that would turn and shift direct based on where you piloted your dragon steed! All of these additions turned the game into an interactive experience for fans of all ages.

Star Wars arcade game shown at New York Comic-Con
2014 at 12:07 pm by admin | Comments Off
As the New York Comic-Con astounded and entertained audiences with a variety of panels, cosplay contests, merchandise, and more this past weekend, entertainment company Bandai Namco Games has announced a brand new arcade game based on the hit Star Wars franchise, titled “Star Wars: Battle Pod”! This first-person piloting game will take users through a number of iconic battles from the Star Wars franchise, and immerse users into the gameplay experience using an innovative spherical display, titled the Panoramic Optical Display. This display, which was originally used in a Gundam-themed arcade cabinet in 2006, creates a 3D view of the battlefield around the user in its hemisphere display, and will feature controls and sensors identical to the ones that appeared throughout the Star Wars franchise. “Star Wars: Battle Pod” will release in arcades across North America on January 2015, so keep an eye out for this cool new immersive experience!
