Visitors to Brooklyn, New York’s infamous Coney Island are in for an artistic treat this month, thanks to this year’s showing of the “Coney Art Walls” exhibit! An annual art collection, the Coney Art Walls are put together and curated by Joseph J. Sitt and Jeffrey Deitch, and features work donated by artists from all over the world. This year’s iteration of the Coney Art Walls featured work from artists like Tristan Eaton, D*Face, Daze, Mister Cartoon, Nychos, and many more, making it a must-see for any art fans in New York City. The exhibit will be open every day for the rest of the summer, which is lots of time to go check out some awesome artwork for yourself!

Water-like glass sculpute on display in LA

Installation artist Patrick Shearn has revealed his newest work in Los Angeles in the form of a large-scale glass sculpture! Titled “Liquid Shard”, the art piece was created as a collaboration between Shearn, public art organization Now Art LA, and college AAV School of Los Angeles. The sculpture itself extends over 15,000 square feet, blanketing visitors of the Pershing Square public park with thousands of glass shards, undulating and waving like water. The glass itself is made of a holographic filament, making the piece shine in the light in dozens of different colors. Shearn, inspired by the observation of nature, hopes that the piece will draw the eyes of busy passerby and help them appreciate nature through his work.

Markus Linnenbrick decorates Miami hotel

Artist Markus Linnenbrick, known for his work with large saturated color strips in architecture and design, has brought his work to Miami, Florida with his massive new installation piece! Painted alongside the upcoming SLS Brickell Hotel, the piece consists of dozens of vertical stripes all across the building’s front. The 40,000 square foot piece was created spontaneously, with each strip finished in one continuous “stroke”, and the strips bleed into each other create a wide array of vibrant tones and visual interest. Murakami to host private art collection exhibit in 2016

Contemporary Japanese artist and pop designer Takashi Murakami, known for his colorfully unique style of art and sculpture, will be hosting his own private collection of artwork in an upcoming exhibition at the Yokohama Museum of Art in 2016! Titled “Takashi Murakami’s Superflat Collection”, the collection features a wide variety of works from artist over several eras whom have inspired Murakami and his works to this day. These include works from his modern pop movement artists like Yoshitomo Nara, Anselm Kiefer, Horst Janssen, Frank Benson, and Friedrich Kunath among others, as well as antiquated Asian art and artifacts, European pieces, folk art and crafts, and more. Through this exhibit of Murakami’s little-known personal collection, Murakami hopes to explore what art is, through a variety of aesthetic designs and approaches, and wishes for viewers to question art in a conventional as well as historical context. The exhibit will be hosted starting from January 30, 2016 until April 3rd, with tickets going on sale starting this October, so fans from all over the world can get excited to see what Murakami has collected over the years!

This year’s San Diego Comic-Con was bigger than ever, with dozens of new announcements on the latest movies, comics, toys, games, and more for fans all over the world! With a wide variety of companies and franchises showing off their new and upcoming products, there has been plenty of awesome news and information for visitors to chew on for months to come.

One of the biggest attractions at the event was the Star Wars panel, which was held in anticipation of the new “The Force Awakens” film’s release this coming December. The panel featured an interview from the famous trio of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, whom will reprise their roles as Luke, Leia, and Han in the new film, as well as the slew of new actors and characters. The panel also featured a surprise showing of a Star Wars-themed concert, complete with fireworks display, as well as new information and tidbits about the upcoming film. “The Force Awakens” will be the newest Star Wars film in 10 years, and will release in theaters on December 18th, 2015.



DC and Marvel were also present at the event, showing off new information and trailers for their upcoming superhero movies. Among these reveals was the first full-length trailer for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, debuting a number of action scenes between the two titanic superheroes, as well as the first debut of Wonder Woman! Other releases include information on the upcoming Deadpool film, as well as “X-Men: Apocalypse” and other big-name films.

A number of displays and exclusive figures were also available throughout SDCC, and covered wide range of franchises, including Mario Bros, Star Wars, Power Rangers, Dragon Ball Z, Game of Thrones, Dr. Who, Frozen, various Marvel and DC franchises, and much more. Virtual reality was also a large component of a number of SDCC booths thanks to the Oculus Rift, and companies like Mattel, Legendary Pictures, SyFy, and others took advantage of the newest technology to advertise their upcoming releases and products.

With so many cool news announcements and releases, this year’s SDCC was just as amazing as fans have come to expect from the annual convention, and has left us all waiting in anticipation for next year!

Futura opens exhibit in Moscow

Urban artist and designer Futura has been known for his grafitti artwork and character design, taking advantage of abstract shapes and mediums to create his work. His work, often meant to be seen on the streets, has now been put on display in a gallery in Moscow, Russia! Futura’s latest exhibit, titled “TIMEWARP”, went on display at the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture, and features his pieces on cold drab brick walls. While the setting is contrary to most modern art exhibits, the setting was carefully chosen by Futura and curators to remain true to his art, which was born on the streets in similar environments. The show, which explores the concept of time through Futura’s iconic abstractions, opened to the public on October 14th, and will remain at the museum until November 4th. Art Everywhere opens in Times Square

The highly anticipated “Art Everywhere” movement, originally started as a touring exposition in the United Kingdom, has kicked off its US debut with a large-scale showing at New York City’s Times Square! Announced this April, Art Everywhere plans to be the largest outdoor showing of classic and modern American artwork in the nation, with over 50,000 public displays set to participate in the nationwide exhibition. With works donated from museums like the Dallas Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, New York’s Whitney Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and DC’s National Gallery of Art, the show features a wide variety of artwork that strives to bring art to the public in a unique and inviting way.

The show, which will run through the duration of August in various cities across America, took over New York City’s Times Square on its grand opening on August 4th. A number of electronic billboards, ad spaces, bus stops, and other displays throughout Times Square and New York City were taken over by classic artwork from artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Chuck Close, Edward Hopper, and other artists.
