Nintendo Switch console unveiled

Months of speculation and rumors surrounding Nintendo’s newest console, code-named the NX, will finally come to an end today, thanks to the official announcement of the Nintendo Switch! The console acts like a hybrid of Nintendo’s home console line and handheld series, allowing users to play the Switch both at home and on the go! This is accomplished thanks to a variety of innovative features, like a docking stand that the Switch plugs into at home to play on your TV, along with a separate slide-out tablet to play the console in a handheld format. The controller, titled the Joy-Con, is also widely modular, allowing the controller to be split apart from its at-home configuration and attached to the portable tablet to create a handheld screen. The console unveil also showed off a number of new games, including the upcoming Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Splatoon, on top of a brand new Mario title! “The Red Turtle” to hit theaters in the US

“The Red Turtle”, an animated film directed by Dutch animator Michaël Dudok de Wit and co-produced by Studio Ghibli, will be coming to the United States! The announcement comes off the heels of the film’s official Japanese release on September 17th, as well as the film’s original debut at the 2016 69th annual Cannes Film Festival in France this past May. The film, which has received praise from viewers and critics alike from all over the world, follows the story of a marooned sailor and his day-to-day struggle to survive on a deserted island, as well as the mystery of a red sea turtle he encounters on one of his escape attempts. It was announced that “The Red Turtle” will be released at select theaters nationwide starting on January 20th, 2017. Disney’s newest animated film, Moana, has finally received its full trailer! Mere weeks before the movie debuts in theaters across the world on November 23rd, fans can get a sneak peak at the action and characters in this newest release. Moana takes place in the ancient South Pacific, and follows the adventures of sea navigator Moana as she sets sail with the mysterious deity Maui in search of a legendary island. Fans have been looking forward to the movie since the original announcement in 2014, and are sure to enjoy this newest look at Disney’s upcoming film! Tezuka’s characters come together in card game

Animation Studio Tezuka Productions has announced a partnership with gaming company Active Gaming Media to bring Tezuka’s iconic characters to life in the form of the interactive card game, “Astro Boy: Edge of Time!” The game will feature a number of Tezuka’s characters, including Astro Boy, Black Jack, Phoenix, Magma, Epsilon, and many more in a cyberpunk future city setting.

The game itself will feature updated artwork of Tezuka’s characters from a number of talented artists, like Suda51, Hiroya Oku, Satoshi Yoshioka, Hiroaki, Hiroshi Matsuyama, and more! The game will feature both an expansive single-player story surrounding Tezuka’s characters, as well as an online multiplayer lobby where people from all over the world can compete in card battles. A demo for the game is already available on the game’s Kickstarter page, and the full release is currently scheduled for March 2017.

Animation team Brad Kremer and Dean Fowler have shown their love for the classic 1988 anime adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s “Akira” by recreating scenes from the movie in CG! The short film, which features shots from Akira’s iconic motorcycle chase scene, along with sweeping shots of Neo-Tokyo, is the result of several years of work between Kremer and Fowler. The most prominent feature of the film is the iconic red bike, featuring a fresh set of decals, paint, and animation for its CG debut! While not an official trailer or project, this fan-made tribute shows off Kremer’s and Fowler’s love for both the film and the medium in whole. Check it out below!

Media entertainment company LEVEL-5, known for their popular franchises like “Yokai Watch” and “Inazuma Eleven”, have revealed information on their latest project, known as “Megaton Musashi”! This new story will take place in a sci-fi future where humanity is on the verge of extinction thanks to the invasion of an alien race known as the Dorakuta, leaving the remainder of humanity with no recollection of the Dorakuta or their invasion. A small group of refugees whose minds were not altered to forget the Dorakuta are tasked to fight back against the alien race through the use of giant mecha known as Musashi, which have the ability to swap weapons and limbs with the use of special cards.

The franchise, which takes inspiration from early mecha anime like Mazinger Z and Getter Robo, will include a television anime, video game franchise, collectible card game and action figures, featuring the titular Musashi and their weapon change gimmick. There are even plans for a serialized Megaton Musashi manga in internationally renowned manga pulication Shonen Jump, created by Mazinger Z inventor Go Nagai! Megaton Musashi is expected to launch next summer, but for the time being, check out the animated trailer below, and keep an eye out for more news as the year goes on!

San Diego Comic-Con never fails to impress fans with its wide variety of announcements on the hottest and latest movies, comics, toys, games, and more, and this year’s iteration didn’t fail to impress! With dozens of big-name companies showing off their best and brighest products for the next year, there’s a lot to dig into over the next few months!



Some of the biggest names in the industry were excited to show off their TV and movie projects for the next year, and fans were ready to eat up every bit of it! Reveals ranged from DC’s reveal of the Justice League trailer, as well as trailers for Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, and the upcoming superhero fighting game Injustice 2, to Warner Bros. unveiling the world’s first look at Kong: Skull Island on top of trailers for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and the LEGO Batman Movie.



Not one to slouch, Marvel also unveiled a number of looks at their TV and movie schedule for the next year, with franchises like Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Doctor Strange, the Defenders, and Guardiands of the Galaxy strutting their stuff.



Other big releases included the announcement of Godzilla: Resurgence for international release sometime in 2016, along with an entire panel dedicated to the new Pokémon Go phone game phenomenon, which took a look at future features and add-ons that are slated to drop for the game in the near future. Popular franchises like The Walking Dead, Star Trek, Sherlock, and more were also at the event, with dozens of stands, booths, and talks to help hype visitors up for months to come.

A new trailer has released for the brand-new upcoming film, “Godzilla: Resurgence”! The film, which will be the first Japanese-made Godzilla film since “Godzilla Final Wars” in 2004, is a collaboration directed by “Neon Genesis Evangelion” and “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind” director Hideaki Anno and “Attack on Titan” storyboard artist Shinji Higuchi. The film promises to be one of the most scary representations of the iconic giant monster, with themes and designs inspired by the original 1954 film, and the newest trailer shows Godzilla’s new design off as it rampages through towns and cities. The film will hit theaters in Japan on July 29th, with no news yet as to an international release, so look forward to more news on Godzilla later this year!

Nintendo announces Zelda: Breath of the Wild

At this year’s E3, or Electronic Entertainment Expo for short, Nintendo had a huge focus on its highly anticipated upcoming Zelda title, and it did not disappoint. The game, unveiled to be titled “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild”, will be the newest entry into the Legend of Zelda franchise, releasing on the Nintendo WiiU and the mysterious new Nintendo NX. This Zelda title will return the series’ NES-based roots, letting players explore a huge world all on their own, without guidance from the story or the game itself. Players will survive off the land, gathering fruit, food, supplies, and weapons in order to fend for themselves against the dangerous wildlife and giant robots that inhabit the vast open overworld. Nintendo has stressed that the game is very hands-off, allowing players to go wherever they want from the very start of the game. While the game itself won’t release until 2017, Nintendo has provided a very in-depth look into the game’s mechanics, as well as a cool new trailer, seen below.
