LEVEL-5 reveals “Megaton Musashi” franchise

Media entertainment company LEVEL-5, known for their popular franchises like “Yokai Watch” and “Inazuma Eleven”, have revealed information on their latest project, known as “Megaton Musashi”! This new story will take place in a sci-fi future where humanity is on the verge of extinction thanks to the invasion of an alien race known as the Dorakuta, leaving the remainder of humanity with no recollection of the Dorakuta or their invasion. A small group of refugees whose minds were not altered to forget the Dorakuta are tasked to fight back against the alien race through the use of giant mecha known as Musashi, which have the ability to swap weapons and limbs with the use of special cards.

The franchise, which takes inspiration from early mecha anime like Mazinger Z and Getter Robo, will include a television anime, video game franchise, collectible card game and action figures, featuring the titular Musashi and their weapon change gimmick. There are even plans for a serialized Megaton Musashi manga in internationally renowned manga pulication Shonen Jump, created by Mazinger Z inventor Go Nagai! Megaton Musashi is expected to launch next summer, but for the time being, check out the animated trailer below, and keep an eye out for more news as the year goes on!

Dragon Ball airs brand-new anime series in July

Following the critical success of the past two Dragon Ball movies, television studio Fuji TV has announced that a brand-new Dragon Ball anime series is in the works! Originally created by artist Akira Toriyama in 1984 in manga format, the eventual anime adaptation as “Dragon Ball” and “Dragon Ball Z” garnered worldwide popularity, and multiple spinoff movies, video games, comics, and more. The new series, titled “Dragon Ball Super”, will follow the story of the two recent movies, “Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Dogs”, and “Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F”.

The debut of “Dragon Ball Super” will mark the first new anime entry in the Dragon Ball franchise since “Dragon Ball GT” in 1996! Details about Super’s story are scarce at the moment, though it was announced that Toriyama himself is working on the anime as writer and character designer. “Dragon Ball Super” is set to hit Japanese TVs this July, and news will surely arrive about worldwide releases shortly afterwards.

First look at new Thunderbirds series

The original “Thunderbirds” television show, which aired from 1964 to 1966, astounded viewers across the world with its use of miniatures and iconic puppets in order to create a thrilling television series for children and adults alike. Over 50 years since the show’s original airing, the Thunderbirds are coming back to television with “Thunderbirds are Go!”, thanks to ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures!
This new series will span 52 episodes across two seasons, and continue to follow the Tracy family and their rescue exploits.



In the newest teaser released earlier this February, fans got their first look at the scenery of the new Thunderbirds series, compliments of special effects and model team WETA Workshop, who are best known for their work on the Lord of the Rings franchise. The trailer shows off the new animation style used in “Thunderbirds are Go!”, which is a combination of CGI and classic miniature models. The trailer shows off iconic vistas, like Tracy Island’s various rooms and hangars. The new Thunderbirds series is set to begin airing on April 15th, with more news to come as we get closer to release.

Disney begins Muppets web series

The Muppets, created in 1955 by puppeteer and artist Jim Henson, have been going through a revival recently with the release of the first Muppets theatrical movie in 12 years in 2011, along with the recent release of “Muppets Most Wanted” in theaters this past March. In order to advertise the upcoming release of “Muppets Most Wanted” on home video, Disney has launched a new digital-only series titled “Disney Drive-On with the Muppets”!

This new six-episode series, which will only be available on Apple devices through the Disney Movies Anywhere app, will consist of a new releases every Friday, starting with the first episode releasing on August 1st. The series will follow newcomer puppet Walter as he works alongside his fellow Muppet stars and characters at Walt Disney Studios. Featuring popular characters like Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Animal, and more, the series will also give insight into some behind-the-scenes looks at the creation of “Muppets Most Wanted”, which releases on home video on August 12th. The entire first episode of “Disney Drive-On with the Muppets” has also been made available through the Disney Movies Anywhere YouTube channel, giving fans a taste of the series and a chance to see some beloved classic puppets in action once again.
