Pokemon: The First Movie returns to theaters

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the classic Nintendo franchise, the original 1998 Pokémon film, “Pokémon: The First Movie”, will be making a grand return to theaters nationwide! The re-screening of the popular children’s movie will take place at 200 select Cinemark locations across the United States, and will take place from October 29th to November 1st. Both “Pokémon: The First Movie” and the animated short “Pikachu’s Vacation” will air, similarly to the movie’s original release nearly two decades ago. The movie re-release comes as a part of a year-long celebration of the Pokémon franchise, including the release of the original Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow games on the Nintendo 3DS system, along with the Pokémon Go smartphone app and the upcoming release of the brand-new Pokémon Sun and Moon 3DS games in November. Make sure to keep an eye out for participating Cinemark locations this Halloween to take part in this nostalgic experience!

Sanrio’s Pompompurin set to decorate McDonald’s food

After winning this year’s Sanrio Character Ranking, adorable dog character Pompompurin is now set to appear on an undisclosed McDonald’s menu item this October! This fun activity comes as a collaboration between McDonald’s and Sanrio, and a teaser site is currently letting fans guess as to which of the 5 potential Pompompurin-themed items will appear on the menu on October 14th. The choices range from sensible to outlandish, and include items like a standard McDonald’s hamburger with Pompompurin’s visage emblazoned upon the bun and a custard McFlurry, to wacky items like crème caramel-flavored chicken nuggets and even a specialty burger featuring a caramel flan patty inside! Which item will make it to Japanese McDonalds later this month? You can check the official website, seen here, to see and vote on your choices, with the results being published on October 7th!

Yokai Watch invades Universal Studios Japan

Popular monster collecting franchise Yokai Watch and Universal Studios have teamed up for a new series of fun Yokai Watch attractions at Universal Studios Japan! Visitors to the theme park in Osaka will be treated to a series of attractions and events in the Yokai Watch Festival, taking part in fun activities for the chance to gain exclusive Yokai Watch merchandise. Included in these events is the “Yokai Watch: The Real 4″ event, where visitors will explore the theme park with the help of a Yokai Pad and Watch to find hiding Yokai. Also featured in the festival will be dancing events set to music from the Yokai Watch anime, as well as other fun activities and attractions throughout 2016. For this event, Universal and LEVEL-5 have collaborated on a series of new exclusive Yokai for the event, including the Nyaaminator, who is based on the Terminantor franchise! All of these activities make Universal Studios Japan the ideal Yokai hunting spot for any diehard fan, with even more events scheduled for 2017!

As part of our superfun Pusheen Party on August 13th, we invite you to get creative — looks can be anything from cosplay to kawaii to face painting to fashion based on a Pusheen color palette and beyond — anything goes as long as it ties back somehow to our friend Pusheen and makes us smile. Patlabor reboot coming this fall

Coming off the heels of the 2014 live-action adaptation of the classic manga and anime Patlabor, anime project Japan Animator Expo has announced that a short animated reboot of Patlabor will release this fall! The project, headed by Hideki Anno’s Studio Khara, will debut at Japan Animator Expo’s week-long screening event starting on October 15th. Featuring a fresh look at the characters and scenario of the late 1980s franchise, the Patlabor short will feature the return of Patlabor’s original scriptwriter and composer, along with other big names in the anime industry!

Cartoon Network hosts Animation Jam

In a move designed to inspire young artists and help promote the ever-growing animation business, Cartoon Network has announced their first Animation Jam collaborative event! In this event, Cartoon Network Studios will invite undergraduate animation artists from across the nation to their headquarters in Burbank, California to take part in a group project of creating a completely original 15-second animated short. The project, which will take place in the universe of the “O.K. KO! Let’s Be Heroes” cartoon, will be led by a creative team of animation mentors, including the creator of “O.K. KO!” Ian Jones-Quartey. The Animation Jam follows Cartoon Network’s Game Jam event in Portland, Oregon earlier this year, and will run from July 9th to July 11th, with the completed animation to be aired on Cartoon Network’s television channel later this year!

Adobe Creative Jam has arrived to Minneapolis

Adobe, international software and design company, has brought its Creative Jam design conference and experience to Minneapolis! Previously hosted in cities across the world like Brooklyn, Atlanta, Mexico City, Tokyo, London, Montreal, Madrid, and many more, Creative Jam is a unique mix of conference and competition, as designer teams compete in art-based tournaments using Adobe software, while at the same time presenting their own creative processes to large audiences in the Creative Jam Presentations. This summer’s Creative Jam is being hosted in Minneapolis as well as Vancouver on June 23rd, with another location at the Bump Festival in Belgium starting on June 24th. Many artists from all over the world will be participating in these festivities, as well as dozens of locally based teams. Sanrio-themed dishes at Los Angeles restaurant

Sanrio fans in Los Angeles now have a fun restaurant stop to look forward to, as the Plan Check Kitchen and Bar has collaborated with Sanrio in order to bring popular characters Pompompurin and Chococat to their menu! Following their past collaboration with Sanrio’s Gudetama character, the restaurant held a launch party for these delicious new treats on June 10th, and features all their new designs in one large multi-course Sanrio meal. Starting off with a small dish of mac and cheese as an appetizer, the main dish arrives in the form of a Pompompurin-themed hamburger and vanilla cream soda combo, sporting the dog’s adorable visage on both. Once that’s done, dessert is served with the large Chococat cookie and ice cream!
On top of this wide offering of Sanrio treats, customers who order the meal will receive a complementary hat featuring Pompompurin and Chococat, with a design exclusively available at the Plan Check Kitchen and Bar! The restaurant has even gone so far as to decorate their windows with adorable Sanrio decals to celebrate! The promotion will only be available for one month, and a portion of all proceeds will be donated to L.A. Love & Leashes, a non-profit animal adoption movement. So if you’re in the LA area, make sure to check out these awesome new foodstuffs for a good cause!
