Pokemon: The First Movie returns to theaters

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the classic Nintendo franchise, the original 1998 Pokémon film, “Pokémon: The First Movie”, will be making a grand return to theaters nationwide! The re-screening of the popular children’s movie will take place at 200 select Cinemark locations across the United States, and will take place from October 29th to November 1st. Both “Pokémon: The First Movie” and the animated short “Pikachu’s Vacation” will air, similarly to the movie’s original release nearly two decades ago. The movie re-release comes as a part of a year-long celebration of the Pokémon franchise, including the release of the original Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow games on the Nintendo 3DS system, along with the Pokémon Go smartphone app and the upcoming release of the brand-new Pokémon Sun and Moon 3DS games in November. Make sure to keep an eye out for participating Cinemark locations this Halloween to take part in this nostalgic experience!

Animation Show of Shows to hit theaters nationwide

“The Animation Show of Shows” has been an annual event in which animators from all over the world participate in a collection of animated shorts, which is them shown at school and studios across the nation. Now, this year’s edition of “The Animation Show of Shows” will make its way onto the silver screen for the very first time by debuting in theaters! This year’s collection marks the 17th version of “The Animation Show of Shows” since the collection’s debut in 1998, and features 11 animated shorts from artists from Ireland, France, Russia, Switzerland, Australia, Iran, and the United States. This annual gathering of international art, curated Acme Filmworks founder Ron Diamond, has been dedicated to spreading the word on unique, small-scale solo animators and teams, and hopes to inspire and enrich both professionals as well as the everyday spectator seeing animated shorts like these for the very first time. “The Animation Show of Shows” begins its big-screen debut on September 24th, airing for a week at the Arclight Cinema in Hollywood, California. It will then take to the road across October and November, showing off the film in select theaters across the nation. Murakami’s “Jellyfish Eyes” debuts in the West

Originally releasing in Japan on April 26th, 2013, contemporary pop artist Takashi Murakami’s first film, “Jellyfish Eyes”, has made its debut in the United States! The film started airing at the IFC Center theater in New York City last week, and will be shown until July 23rd, thanks to the efforts of Janus Films and Criterion Collection. A film 12 years in the making, “Jellyfish Eyes” is a story Murakami created for children, and deals with issues like coming to terms with grief, putting aside differences to work together, and how companionship emerges from times of disaster. Working on the film both as a director and as a designer, Murakami’s hand can be seen in both the storytelling and the character designs of the whimsical species whom befriend the children in the movie, called F.R.I.E.N.D.S. From big-eyed marshmallow jellyfish to hulking hairy beasts, Murakami has cited a variety of influences in the designs of “Jellyfish Eyes”, from Power Rangers to Spielberg movies.Upon the completion of the initial screening, it was also announced that a sequel to “Jellyfish Eyes” is already in the works, though little else was announced about the sequel’s plot or release date. Dragonball Z: Fukkatsu no F trailer

After the film’s first teaser in July 2014, we have finally been treated to the first full trailer for the newest Dragon Ball Z movie, titled “Fukkatsu no F”! In the new film, the legendary space tyrant Frieza will be revived after his defeat at the hands of Goku and Trunks in the original storyline. The movie will follow Frieza’s attempts at revenge, as well as debut a new golden form for the villain. Alongside the reveal of the new trailer, promotional material for the film was also released, including a manga adaptation of the beginning of the film, as well as exclusive merchandise and collectibles available only at the film’s theatrical debut. The new movie is set to release in Japan on April 18, with plans to release the film internationally in the works. Dragon Ball fans can get excited to see the revival of one of anime’s most iconic villains this spring!
