Street artist Mademoiselle Maurice has called a swarm of origami birds to her latest large-scale mural! The mural, titled “Lunar Cycles”, is the largest urban mural ever created in Paris, and spans the width of a large building scheduled for demolition. The mural was first created by painting over the entire 460-foot-long side of the building in black paint, which was then decorated with 15,000 colorful origami birds, spread and layered to create a beautiful array of designs and colors. The mural was created in collaboration with Mathgoth Gallery, and the final design was decided upon with input from the local community. The mural will remain open to the public until August 2016, so check out this cool installation while it lasts!

TOMODACHI is excited to partner with the Envision Fall 2015 fashion show and our friends at Public Functionary and Fulton Beer to help create the event’s VIP experience on Saturday, September 26th at Orchestra Hall. We collaborated on a vibrant backdrop for the VIP room’s photo booth, which is designed completely with Japanese washi brand, mt tape!

More than just a pretty background, the photo booth is a unique live art collaboration. Guests are invited to pose for fashion photographer Alex Butterfield in front the washi installation; Alex then hands images off to award-winning illustrator, Allegra Lockstad, who will further embellish them using a digital Wacom tablet, projected LIVE. The photos will be posted on Facebook after the event — watch for them to be shared by TOMODACHI!

The Envision Fall fashion show is the Twin Cities preeminent fashion showcase, and the longest running fashion event in Minnesota. Held in the stunning venue of Orchestra Hall, Envision features a runway show of looks from both emerging and established local designers and boutiques.

The VIP Room, curated by Public Functionary, and sponsored by Fulton and TOMODACHI, will also feature music from Eric Mayson and special guests as well as a bar, food and a pop-up shop from Hotrocity and a mt tape table hosted by TOMODACHI!

Artist constructs free-standing paper bridge

2015 at 03:24 pm by admin | Comments Off

ArticlePaperBridge1

Artist Steve Messam has taken paper design to a new level with his free-standing PaperBridge! The culmination of four years of design work, PaperBridge is unique in that the bridge is fully functional, able to support the weight of hikers, spectators, and more, all without using a single support! The bridge itself, located in the Lake District of northwest England, is made of 22,000 sheets of red paper, and relies on standard architectural principles rather than glue, bolts, or frames to stay sturdy and standing. Inspired by classical pack horse bridges that dot the Lake District, is also environmentally friendly, leaving no footprint on the beautiful scenery around it. The bridge will be recycled once the display ends, turning it back into usable paper once again. The bridge is only the latest of Messam’s paper-based installation pieces, so look forward to wherever his next piece may pop up!
