Sanrio supports 2016 earthquake victims

In the wake of the ongoing relief efforts of the April 2016 earthquakes that hit the Kumamoto and Oita prefectures in Japan, Sanrio has uploaded a video in support of those suffering from the lingering effects of the natural disaster. Titled “One Action for One Love”, the video is part of an effort to spread awareness as well as to help in relief; Sanrio themselves have pledged to donate one yen for every view the video has to helping out victims! On top of that, Sanrio’s website for One Action for One Love is also offering other ways for visitors to help out, ranging from taking donations and letting repeat customers use their Sanrio Friendship Club points to donate to the effort. Tezuka’s characters come together in card game

Animation Studio Tezuka Productions has announced a partnership with gaming company Active Gaming Media to bring Tezuka’s iconic characters to life in the form of the interactive card game, “Astro Boy: Edge of Time!” The game will feature a number of Tezuka’s characters, including Astro Boy, Black Jack, Phoenix, Magma, Epsilon, and many more in a cyberpunk future city setting.
The game itself will feature updated artwork of Tezuka’s characters from a number of talented artists, like Suda51, Hiroya Oku, Satoshi Yoshioka, Hiroaki, Hiroshi Matsuyama, and more! The game will feature both an expansive single-player story surrounding Tezuka’s characters, as well as an online multiplayer lobby where people from all over the world can compete in card battles. A demo for the game is already available on the game’s Kickstarter page, and the full release is currently scheduled for March 2017.

Japan 2020 Olympics teased in new video

With the 2016 Olympics coming to a close this past Sunday, August 21st, the closing ceremony passed the torch from Rio to Tokyo in a large-scale presentation previewing the 2020 Olympics! The presentation featured a full-length video showing off Tokyo, Japan alongside a number of sports and collaborations with popular icons like Mario, Pac-Man, Hello Kitty, Doraemon and more. The presentation also included a choreographed dance, as well as other multi-language displays. Check out the presentation itself below, and look forward to 2020!

Over 1000 dancing robots break world record

Tech company Ever Wing Company, Ltd. has broken the Guinness World Record for most dancing robots in unison with their recent groovy display! The dance, which featured 1040 of the QRC-2 robot, was over a minute long, and featured all robots dancing in unison thanks to a single smartphone controller. While some of the robots were disqualified due to falling over or not dancing properly, 1007 of the dancing robots completed the dance perfectly, earning them the world record! Yokai Watch hits smartphones with new titles

After LEVEL-5 recently announced that the original Yokai Watch video game will be made available on smartphones and tablets, more good news for Yokai Watch fans has surfaced in the form of two new games for Android and iOS! The first, “Yokai Watch: Daijiten”, will be a quiz-type video game geared towards Yokai Watch masters, and will test your knowledge on the franchise’s wide variety of characters along with various other subjects like spelling and other general knowledge. The second game, “Yokai Watch: Gerapo Rhythm”, will be the series’ very first rhythm game! Featuring simple controls in which users will tap along to the beat, Gerapo Rhythm will feature all your favorite Yokai Watch characters, along with a number of songs that were featured in both the video game series as well as the anime. Yokai Watch: Daijiten will debut in Japan this November, and Yokai Watch: Gerapo Rhythm will release in March 2017. Check out the video below to see the two new games in action!

Rolls-Royce looks to the future with the 103EX

In order to help celebrate BMW’s 100th anniversary, BMW second company Rolls-Royce has rolled out a fresh look at their vision of the future in automation with their new vehicle, dubbed the 103EX. The 103EX is a high-concept futuristic proposal for the company’s future in fully autonomous luxury transportation, taking advantage of the latest in technology and design to bring ease of use and style to users. Using Rolls-Royce’s Eleanor virtual assistant and autonomous driver, the interior of the cabin is steering free, allowing a wide space for drivers to relax on sofa-like seats. The vehicle will be emission-free, running off of an electric powertrain, and using 65 individual pieces of aluminum for wheels, rather than standard rubber tires. While the vehicle is not currently scheduled for retail release, it is a shining concept of the future of automation for Rolls-Royce and cars in general. LEGO rolls out the Porsche 911 this June

Ever since the unveiling of LEGO Technic’s latest kit of the Porsche 911 this past January, fans worldwide have been clamoring for any info on the kit, excited to put together their own miniature version of the classic high-performance sports car. Wait no longer; LEGO has finally announced that the LEGO Technic Porsche 911 kit is releasing on June 1st! In order to celebrate the occasion, LEGO has uploaded a video to YouTube detailing the many pieces and features of the hyped kit. The kit, which will include official Porsche stickers and a thick booklet detailing the history of the Porsche 911, will feature working doors, accessible rear lid to the car’s engine, complete with working pistons, and even a working glove compartment! Disneyland Shanghai designs unveiled

In an exciting move for Disney fans all over the world, Disney has officially released our first look at the upcoming Disneyland Shanghai amusement parks! The news was unveiled at a press conference by Disney chief executive Bob Iger, who went on to describe what the park will offer to its visitors. Disney Shanghai will be split into six distinct areas based on Disney films, animations, and media. These include Mickey Avenue as the main entrance to the park, which will lead to the Gardens of Imagination, Fantasyland, Adventure Isle, Trasure Cove, and Tomorrowland.
There will also be unique areas like the Star Wars Launch Bay and Marvel Universe parks, which will feature props, memorabilia, sets, and other events for visitors to enjoy. New events have already been announced for the park as well, including a Mandarin-language stage performance of the “Lion King” musical, as well as exclusive merchandise like Zodiac-themed Disney characters. The park, which is located in Chuansha, Shanghai, will open in Spring 2016, so make plans to check out the newest grandiose Disney resort next year!

Chiho Aoshima debuts solo exhibit at Seattle

Chiho Aoshima, originally working as an artist under Takashi Murakami’s design team Kaikai Kiki, has pursued her own solo art career since 2005, using her iconic design style and themes to create a wide variety of pieces and installations. All of her work over the past decade has now come together under one roof with her newest solo exhibit, titled “Chiho Aoshima: Rebirth of the World”! This exhibit is currently on display at the Tateuchi Galleries of the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Washington, and opened its doors to visitors on May 2nd.
The collection featues a selection of Aoshima’s work from the past 10 years, including her “City Glow” installation piece which wowed audiences worldwide when it debuted in New York City’s Union Square in 2005. The collection also features new pieces from Aoshima alongside beloved classics, including 35 brand-new drawings, as well as plexiglass prints. Aoshima will even debut a never-before-seen animation piece serving as a follow-up to “City Glow”, titled “Takaamanohara”. On top of the exhibit itself, the museum will be hosting a family event, where visitors can join Aoshima in creating a unique collage piece! “Rebirth of the World” will remain open until October 4th, 2015, making it a perfect exhibit to check out over the summertime.

Evangelion short streamed online

Animator Expo, a weekly collaboration between anime artists across the medium, recently uploaded a CGI animated short based on the popular Evangelion series. Titled “Evangelion – Another Impact”, the short was headed by Sola Digital Arts, the animation studio behind the recent “Captain Harlock” movie, and was directed by Shinji Aramaki, whose works include anime like Bubblegum Crisis, Megazone 23, and Halo Legends. The short, meant to be an aside to the Evangelion story, features a brand-new Eva Unit, as well as complex CGI environments and animation. Check out the short in the video below!
