Family creates Transformers art from scrap

A father and son team in China have taken to recreating famous characters from the Transformers franchise entirely out of spare parts and scrap! Farmer Yu Zhilin and his son work together to create the statues, painting and welding them together in an empty building on their land. Through this process, the two artists transform tons of garbage into giant display pieces of popular Autobot characters, using the designs of robots like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jetfire, and more to inspire their creations.

Some of the statues feature special gimmicks like LED eyes and smoke breath, and stand upwards of 20 feet tall, towering over the buildings around them! More and more companies have been revealing their exclusive merchandise for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which takes place between July 24th through the 27th, and now classic toy company Hasbro has unveiled their line-up of figures, replicas, and more! Featuring a number of popular franchises, both classic and new, fans won’t want to pass up these limited edition releases!

Transformers has been one of Hasbro’s biggest names in the past decades, and with the series reaching its 30th anniversary this year alongside the release of the new movie, Age of Extinction, Transformers has had a lot to celebrate. Hasbro helps commemorate the occasion with the release of several SDCC exclusives dedicated to the franchise! First off is the new “Transformers Class of 1984″ Kre-O set, which includes 30 Kre-O miniatures based on the original season of the cartoon! On top of releasing previously unavailable Transformers in this set, like Ultra Magnus, Rumble, and Frenzy, all of the figures feature brand-new decals based on their original cartoon appearances, making this $59.99 set a must-have for fans of the classic franchise.

Another release that pays homage to the original 1984 Transformers cartoon is the exclusive Dinobots Action Figure Collection. With the Transformers universe celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, alongside the upcoming release of the ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction movie on June 27th, toy company Kids Logic has decided to celebrate the occasion in a big way with their new Optimus Prime and Bumblebee statues. While not exactly life-size, these statues stand over 10 feet tall, making them the largest Transformers retail release in history!

The two statues, modeled after their appearance in the upcoming film, feature their own stands, as well as numerous LEDs throughout their body. Optimus even comes with his sword from the movie, making these statues an astounding display piece. The iconic Transformers franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and is celebrating the occasion with a number of events, including the collaboration with the Evangelion franchise, as well as the release of the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction movie. Toy company Sentinel has announced their plans to work with company Takara Tomy in order to bring an unexpected Transformers release to your desk with this new Transformers pen. This fully-functional pen acts as the alternate mode to a fully posable, miniature recreation of Optimus Prime, the lead protagonist of the Transformers franchise! The toy will feature Optimus’ blaster weapon, and is set to release later this year. Japanese toy maker Takara Tomy has recently announced a brand-new collaboration between two huge franchises: Transformers and Evangelion! The joint effort was revealed in hobby magazines, and shows off promotional art as well as gives a short fictional backstory behind it, combining the fictions of the two franchises into one giant event. This collaboration is part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the Transformers franchise, which originated as a rebranding of the Japanese toy lines Diaclone and Microman, and officially launched in 1984 with the toy line and animated TV series. While not much is known about the crossover, the magazine hints at a toy release of Optimus Prime colored in Evangelion Unit 01’s iconic purple and green. This new collaboration, alongside the upcoming summer movie “Transformers: Age of Extincion”, makes this year one to remember for Transformers fans all across the globe!
