Travelers going through the San Francisco International Airport have been treated to an unexpected museum exhibit circulating around the history of Japanese toys and the culture surrounding them! The exhibit, titled “Japanese Toys! From Kokeshi to Kaiju”, has been open since November 2013, and has been extended to be open to the public until mid-May. The exhibit covers the history and evolution of Japanese toys from 1800s wooden dolls to cultural sensations, featuring popular icons like Astro Boy, Hello Kitty, Godzilla, Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and many more!

The SFO Museum, which has been the only airport-based museum to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, says that this exhibit has been their most popular attraction by far since their opening in 1980, and has extended the duration of the exhibit for fans who wish to continue visiting it. On top of that, the Japan Society of Northern California will be organizing a discussion panel and guided tour of the exhibit on April 22nd, giving non-travelers the chance to explore the museum in person.
