Toy Story holiday special revealed

Toy Story has been one of the most beloved Pixar franchises, receiving a number of movies, sequels, spinoffs, video games, toy releases, and more since the original movie’s debut in 1995. Now, at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Toy Story directors unveiled a brand new entry into the Toy Story franchise: a TV holiday special titled “Toy Story That Time Forgot”!

Unveiled as an exclusive poster, “Toy Story That Time Forgot” was expended upon at SDCC’s Toy Story panel, where directors and voice actors got to talk about the upcoming special as well as show off short clips. The special will take place after Toy Story 3, where Woody, Buzz, and company, now under ownership of a young girl named Bonnie, meet up with a retro-styled group of toys called the Battlesaurs. The poster art shows off the Battlesaurs decked out in armor and weaponry, and even shows Toy Story 3’s triceratops toy Trixie sporting a similar battle-ready motif! Trixie is set to have a major role in the special, working as a link between Bonnie’s toys and the Battlesaurs. The special, which will premiere on ABC on December 2nd, 2014, will also serve as the basis for a new line of Toy Story figures and collectibles, including the new Battlesaurs.

The Toy Story series, originally released in 1995, is a CGI comedy adventure series in while toys and other children’s playthings come to life. Starring Woody the cowboy and Buzz Lightyear, a futuristic astronaut figure, along with a wide number of other toys and characters, their desire to be played with by children leads them on a number of mischievous adventures and journeys. With Toy Story 2 in 1999 and Toy Story 3 in 2010, a number of spinoffs and shorts have been created to help expand the universe, including the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command TV series, and shorts like Hawaiian Vacation, Partysaurus Rex, Toy Story of TERROR!, and more.


Jurassic World exclusive posters at SDCC

Jurassic Park, the popular 1990s science-fiction adventure film series based on the novel by Michael Crichton, has been gearing up for a revival with the new upcoming movie, Jurassic World. The fourth movie in the series, Jurassic World is scheduled to release in theaters on June 12th, 2015, and Universal Studios is celebrating the upcoming release in a big way at SDCC with the release of the first official Jurassic World poster!

The poster shows off an iconic scene from the original movie, 22 years after the events of the film, and showcases the construction of the new Jurassic World park on Isla Nublar, as well as our first look at the new design for the iconic deinonychus, often mistaken for a velociraptor. The poster, drawn by artist Mark Englert, will be available in short supply at SDCC this weekend, giving visitors a chance to take home some exclusive artwork.


X-Men virtual reality exhibit at SDCC 2014

With this year’s San Deigo Comic-Con opening its doors to fans across the world in the coming week, 20th Century Fox has revealed its plans to create a virtual reality exhibit at the event based on the popular X-Men franchise! This interactive experience, which will utilize the popular Oculus Rift VR headset, will recreate the X-Men’s iconic machine, Cerebro. This machine, used by the X-Men’s leader, Professor X, to find fellow mutants throughout the world through the use of brainwaves, will be emulated through the use of the Oculus Rift technology, allowing user to virtually track down mutants and characters like the shape-shifting Mystique.

The 360-degree exhibit will include a replica of Professor X’s wheelchair for users to sit in, and will even feature a short interactive film to walk user through the experience. The exhibit will also feature a limited edition Blu-ray box set, which includes the entire library of previously released X-Men movies in a replica case of the Cerebro helmet! Fox will also be promoting the Blu-ray release of the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past” movie on October 14th, and hopes to make their booth a must-see for everyone at the event.


Nintendo at SDCC 2014

With San Diego Comic-Con 2014 shaping up to be an awesome experience for visitors and fans across the world, Nintendo has decided to step up their game at the show this year, setting up their largest presence ever in the history of the event! Hoping to make the event a fun and engaging time for fans, Nintendo plans to bring some their biggest upcoming games and recent releases to the show, letting visitors get hands-on gameplay!

Opting out of having just a booth at Comic-Con, Nintendo’s events will be hosted at the Nintendo Gaming Lounge at the first floor of the Marriott Marquis & Marina hotel, and will leave the event open for all visitors to attend and participate; even fans who don’t have a Comic-Con badge can enter and join in the festivities! Having several booths set up for both Nintendo 3DS and Wii U consoles, the event promises to show off a variety of anticipated titles, such as Super Smash Bros., Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, and more! The event will also get a first-hand look at Nintendo’s new Amiibo collectable figures, which will be able to interface with both 3DS and Wii U games in order to customize your gaming experience.

Several unique events will also take place at the Nintendo Gaming Lounge throughout the event, most notably the Nintendo Challenge Live, which will let gamers compete in intense streamed tournaments in several games from July 25th to the 26th! These include a local 32-player Mario Kart 8 tournament, and will let racers across the world face off against the winners of the tournament through online play after the tournament. The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. will also receive its first ever tournament, inviting any fans on a first-come, first-serve basis to enter and play the highly anticipated title. As Super Smash Bros. does not release in the United States until October 3rd, this will be a great opportunity for fans to get their hands on the game before its stateside release.

Finally, Nintendo has announced that visitors will be able to enter an exclusive screening of the recent animated film based on Platinum Games’ Bayonetta series! Titled “Bayonetta: Bloody Fate”, this 90-minute animated film originally released in November 2013, and retold the story of the original Bayonetta videogame. The film will screen on Friday, July 25th, and will require a Comic-Con badge to enter.

On top of all these events, Nintendo will still have a dedicated booth within the Convention Center, so visitors should definitely make time to check out both their booth as well as the Nintendo Gaming Lounge!
