Scientists at Robotics Unlimited in Pensacola, Florida have created the fastest legged running robot in the world, and plan to release the robot to the retail market! The robot, titled Outrunner, can run at speeds up to 20 miles per hour, thanks to it innovate wheel-like design and programming. The robot mimics the behavior of legged animals through its alternating step pattern, allowing the small robot to move at greater speeds than larger, more complex machines. The Outrunner, which includes an HD camera and gyroscope, will be compatible with smartphones and remote controls, allowing users to play with the robot and steer it like a bicycle. The Outrunner robot is planned to release by 2015, and will come in a $299 core model and a $799 performance model, which will feature extended battery life and enhanced speed and control.
