Originally announced in 2012, news on the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII movie has been few and far between, with rumors constantly circulating about the plot, characters, and other details of this anticipated sequel. Fans can now rest a little easier, as filming has officially begun starting on April 7th, and a variety of new information along with it. The new movie, set to release on December 18th, 2015, will star the original cast of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa, as well as their offspring, and will take place around 35 years after the end of ‘Return of the Jedi’.

Other actors, including Peter Mayhew, who originally played the role as Chewbacca in the first trilogy, will return for the new movie, and R2-D2 will reappear in the movie as well, though it is unknown whether original actor Kenny Baker will return to portray the robot. The movie will be directed and penned by JJ Abrams, known for his work in other sci-fi films such as ‘Super 8′ and TV series ‘Lost’, alongside writer Lawrence Kasdan, who helped co-write ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’. Finally, classic series composer John Williams is confirmed to once again provide the score for the film. With so many details coming out as we get closer to the late 2015 release date, Star Wars fans can definitely start getting excited for this new installment!
